This is one of our most commonly asked questions and one of the most difficult to answer!  The truth is that it depends on a whole host of factors including your product, how competitive your market is and how much you want to learn. But as a rough rule of thumb:-

DR radio test budget £10,000
Outdoor test budget £20,000
Off the page test budget £10,000-£30,000
Insert test budget £40,000 (including print)
Door drop test budget £30,000 (including print)
Direct mail test budget £30,000 (including print)
PPC test budget £5,000
SEO test budget £10,000
Email test budget £10,000
Display test budget £10,000

Please note these are gross media budgets not the whole budget you will need to run a campaign – you’ll need to allow extra for creative, call handling etc.


Our record is a little under 2 hours, but we would suggest this is not a benchmark for most clients!

If we have a tough strategic problem to crack then please allow us about three months.  If we are just looking to go to market with a straightforward test then you should allow the following:-

DRTV 10 weeks - we need to book airtime two months prior to activity
DR radio 2 weeks
Outdoor 6 weeks
Off the page 2 weeks
Inserts 4 weeks
Door drops 8 weeks
Direct mail 8 weeks
PC 1 week
SEO 6 weeks
Email 2 weeks
Display 2 weeks


The long answer is that this is totally dependent upon client sector, offer, creative, competition and many other factors. The short answer is that you should expect something between the ranges shown below:-
